THE OFFICE OF GENESEE COUNTY SHERIFF, has several career opportunities available for a Correction's Deputy.  The Office of Genesee County Sheriff is in search of career minded individuals who are interested in being leaders in their communities and whose integrity is beyond reproach.  Applicants must have a respect for those around them, and must be able to earn the respect of those that they serve.  A Correction's Deputy is a custodian of inmates in our jail systems.  It is a position of authority and commitment to integrity.  It is a career that upholds the rules of incarceration yet protects the welfare of inmates.  The Office of Genesee County Sheriff employs over 125 Correction's Deputies and over 78 Police Deputies to provide law enforcement service and to protect and secure the 580 inmates within the Genesee County jail and 110 inmates within the Flint City Lock-up.
The Correction's Deputy will be a full-time Genesee County employee and will support the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.  The Genesee County Sheriff's Office serves the Genesee County Jail and the Flint City Lock-up.  Typical work shifts are 12 hours and include weekends and holidays.  Correction's Deputies must be available for any shift.  Communication skills are critical to the performance of duties.  Candidates must be able to follow written and verbal; directions. Candidates must be able to perform multiple tasks successfully under different degrees of circumstances.  A Correction's Deputy is responsible for maintaining security and discipline of inmates; patrolling and monitoring floors and cells; receiving prisoner property; preparing and maintaining reports and other related duties.
Sixty (60) semester hours of college; OR Corrections training certification from the Michigan Department of Corrections, Genesee County Sheriff's or an accredited college; Certifiable; OR Certified Police Officer; OR Licensed Paramedic; OR Three (3) years' experience as a Corrections Officer in a jail facility; OR Two (2) years Active or Reserve Military experience.
Must successfully complete written and physical agility tests;
Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and irregular hours;
No felony convictions, or misdemeanors;
Training in CPR and first aid is preferred
