Captain Todd Lanning has served with the Office of Genesee County Sheriff for the past 12 years, with responsibilities spanning from Corrections Deputy, Sergeant, Administrative Sergeant, Grant Administrator, Media Relations, and Lieutenant of Jail Operations. 

 

Captain Lanning currently serves as the Executive Officer to the Sheriff. A law enforcement agency the size and complexity of the Office of Genesee County Sheriff requires an elaborate support system to keep its law enforcement operations up and running. This task is the responsibility of the Executive Officer to the Sheriff.  All of the agencies key support functions fall under this command, including: media relations, grant administration, budget oversight, community relations, and capital improvements.  In addition, Captain Lanning provides vital behind the scenes operations that ensure continued funding, compliance, transparency, and provides critical data and analyses to ensure operations remain efficient.

 

Captain Lanning has developed an incredible tact for operations, logistics, and grant writing, including increasing the Office of Sheriff grant revenue to nearly $7 million dollars annually. In addition, during his time as Grant Administrator, the Office of Genesee County Sheriff has added 6 additional grant-funded personnel under key functions, including the Elder Abuse Task Force and Domestic Violence Task Force.

Captain Lanning has served on numerous committees, including the Wayne State Stepping Up Task Force to combat mental health illness and the St. Marks Community Outreach Task Force devoted to suicide awareness in the City of Flint.

Captain Lanning has a Master's Degree in Administration from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from Eastern Michigan University.
