Captain Casey Tafoya has served the Office of Genesee County Sheriff since 2000 in Corrections, Law Enforcement and the Paramedic Division.  Captain Tafoya oversees the Paramedic Division, which includes nearly 40 certified Paramedics serving Genesee County as both certified Police Deputies and Paramedics. In addition, Captain Tafoya oversees the Office of Emergency Management within Genesee County and was the acting Emergency Manager during the first several month of the Flint Water Crisis.  Captain Tafoya has a working knowledge of the Corrections Division with detailed understanding of the Paramedic and Law Enforcement Divisions.

Captain Tafoya obtained a Nursing Degree from Delta College in 2006 and is a licensed Registered Nurse within the State of Michigan.  Captain Tafoya has been a licensed Paramedic since 1999 and a licensed Paramedic Instructor since 2016.  Captain Tafoya maintains several medical certifications including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).

Captain Tafoya is an active member of the Protocol and Professional Standards Review Committees within the Genesee County Medical Authority.  His involvement and proactive approach with Law Enforcement, EMS and Emergency Department within the hospital has been able to improve the quality of care provided to patients throughout Genesee County.
